Really! Hmm, Very Interesting! This could go into a couple of Different Directions, huh? As I see this opportunity, I recognize that we can present ourselves (politically) as Makers or Takers of our society. A) We can become Takers from the City Government of Kankakee and Demand Payment and Recognition for our services while providing a service to the City as a replacement to the service that they recently shut down, or... B) We Can and Will become the Makers of society that will Freely provide this CITO Event on an Annual Basis just because we are gonna be the Makers of society that will get off our duffs to provide a service to the City in the hopes of being able to DO something to make the preserves look better. Obviously, I prefer option B because I consider us to be the Makers that will make things happen for the better. For the City, for the Preserves and just for Caching in general. CITO. Cache In Trash Out. Now if they might bring us up at a Board Meeting and maybe offer some Recognition of Thanks for our efforts.... well I won't deny that. If they go so far as to also Promote our efforts, even better. Don't know about you, but I can see us taking over an Annual Effort to keep the Preserves cleaned up. Might even go a ways to Boost the Geocaching Community as well. How can we go wrong with that?

OK, it's up and Published and I have entered in my Will Attend and a Note logs for it. We're up to 9 folks planning on attending "The Race is On" as well. Could be a good turnout after all. ;D I was a bit concerned with the Holiday Date, and was wondering if I should regret suggesting it. But... lookin' good so far!

If we are in need of another truck bed to haul away trash, I can offer my humble S-10 for the duty.

I would have to say B, also when i talked the them, i told 'em "We are a group of geocachers who are wishing to give back to the community by way of cleaning up our local parks and forest preserves and that over the course of time we would like to try and get into the preserves and try to help clean them up"

If we are in need of another truck bed to haul away trash, I can offer my humble S-10 for the duty. Does this mean you'll be there for sure? (Got the time off work?) If so, Great! Lookin' forward to meeting you too! The Larger the Group, the Better.

I have put in a request for time off, and as long as the family reunion down in Arkansas is still on hold, I will definitely be here.

Hope you are also planning on attending the Race is On event afterward as well. After volunteering a truck bed for us, ya may as well enjoy a meal with us too.

Here we are less than one week out, and we only have 3 people signed up to work this cito.. this is kind of sad. Have you guys posted on the GONIL forums about this event? I would hope some of our GONIL comrades would feel the need to come down and help out.

Here we are less than one week out, and we only have 3 people signed up to work this cito.. this is kind of sad. Have you guys posted on the GONIL forums about this event? I would hope some of our GONIL comrades would feel the need to come down and help out. This is pretty bleak, ain't it... I'm happy to report that quite a few more will attend the Meet & Greet event later in the day that also the start of the 2010 TB Race, but... not so much interest in the CITO. FWIW, we're up to 9 TB's in the race, so that's better than I expected seein' as we're doing this on a Holiday Weekend. I have not posted at GONIL's forums about the CITO Event. I had considered myself an outsider there as I'm not a regular member there with any standing within the ranks. In other words, nobody knows me there, and I don't know them. Thus, I figured it would be a little too 'self promoting' of my forum here to have mentioned this event at GONIL. However, I AM the Admin here and maybe I should have taken the initiative to make a mention of the event. Self promoting or not, it would have been done in the way of a good cause. So, sorry I let hindsight get the better of me, and FWIW, thanks for pointing out a potential Error in my judgment regarding this.
I cannot answer for Bryan. I believe he is a more regular member of GONIL, and he may have mentioned this event. Only he can let us know about that. As for the help? I was really hoping more of our Local cachers would lend a hand here as well. After all, several are coming to the Meet & Greet/TB Race event. Don't get me wrong.... I'll be lookin forward to meeting them all! But I am also a little disappointed on the CITO attendance.
Not to worry though. As I recall, it's a Smaller park/Preserve and the 3 of us should manage A-OK. Bryan and I both have our wives and kids coming long as well, so the 3 of us just turned into 7. That makes me feel a little better about it, how about you?

Yes indeed, a bit better! We can hope this one goes off without a hitch, then next time maybe 3K county will help us out with our next cito by providing pickup or something.

As I recall, Bryan mentioned that the Forest Preserve MAY provide the pick up service. Guess we need to await an Update on that. But... 2 or 3 trucks should get most of the garbage out of there. (I'd better get My truck Ready!) Also, I have a Dumpster or so that we can use to make our deposits. And assuming I get my truck emptied out, we don't really need to dump it all at once. Lord only knows that my truck is usually full anyways, so if the dumpsters aren't large enough I can keep it for a few days and deposit a little at a time.
BTW, Bryan, is you're truck ready to go yet?

I'd like to make it but the drive (@3600 miles round trip) would be a little bit much to do in one day. Holiday weekend and a bunch of cachers are going to Woodstock. I have been wanting to cache in that area for some time but have plans for that weekend already. Plan another sometime and I'll try to make it next time. both are off the gonil site...

with luck it'll be ready on Monday. but if not then the van's going to be used as a garbage truck.... Worst case Scenario:
I have a 10X6 Utility Trailer that's been sitting un used behind my building at work. The Paper work is 2 + years out of date & Missing, but it IS My trailer that I built myself out of my 1966 Camper. It's got tall side walls too. I made the first offer of a Full Sized truck, and I mean to Keep My Word on it. I'm game for towing it around for One Day illegally if I need to. The Truck may not be able to haul stuff, but that Trailer sure can be. No sense in y'all junking up the Van.
