If any of you know my cache "Amongst my peers" cache GC1ET9G, its container was stolen a while ago. I had replaced it with a lock and lock container, which was good enough, but I have now procured a true replacement. The question is, should I archive the present cache, and the place the new one as a new cache, so those who have found the temp container will have a chance to see what the cache was meant to be; or should i just let it go, to see if I can get anymore "my wife thinks you should be shot" logs?

I had a Reply all typed out, and Technicalities Lost it for me, When this (and other issues ~ I can only type with One hand tonight) get fixed, I'll explain more. But I say Replace the Temp container and re edit your listing to let folks know that the Peer has returned. It's the right and fair thing to do.

Let's see if I can save my original reply this time. ... & try to make it short but complete. Archive it, and submit a new one... Bad. A) Someone like me (who knows Exactly where and what it is can score another Smiley, one that some in the Geocaching Community will look down on. B) puts a Reviewer through unnecessary extra work. Replace Container, and re edit your current listing... Good. Let folks make a Note if they come back to see the Real container. I never came after this one to Log it as a Found It again with the Loc-n-Loc as the container cause that wouldn't be fair to do. Likewise, IMHO, it would be unfair to set a new GC # for a cache that is Not new.
Take my cache Archival Revival (GC20K72) as a Prime example. It's my first cache Owned by me but I didn't hide it. You found it under the name Noob's 1st Log Book, (GCPGAZ) Noob abandoned that cache and it was archived by the Reviewer Staff and that allowed me to take it over and make it my own. When I asked at the Groundspeak Forums about logging it as a found a second time (cause I was the one who recovered it from Missing...) I was chastised for it. But as folks came back to it to log another legal and fair Found It I was complimented for bringing it back to life. The cache is the same, container and all... but having a new owner allows it to logged as a Found it again for another Smiley.
I hope I explained my viewpoint well enough, but it is just that My viewpoint. This topic is (of course) open for discussion here in these forums.

Well the point is moot now anyway, the replacement rock I got is defective (the bottom will not stay on). So for now it will stay a lame lock and lock while I wait to find another better container for this cache.
I have the same issue with the caches I hide with my mom down in Arkansas, I try not to find them, because it would be cheating. Though I have logged one (but I really had to find it lol). So hopefully in the near future the rock will be back and hopefully this time stay around longer than the last one did.

I replaced the container finally.. lol I tried forever to figure out how to fix the first rock i got to replace it, eventually giving up because i would need a c&c machine to get it done. So i ordered a new container, and put it out there today, it looks great! Feel free to go check it out and re log a visit cause i replaced the log book, if you have multiple folks in your party let someone who didn't find it the first time around look for it, so they can see if they want to shoot me after they find it.

I would have had to work a dead bolt type system into the bottom, with a twist the machine to unlock the base, requiring a couple drilled out parts and a machined out piece in the middle of the bottom. I may do it in the future but its a lot of work for a little geocache.

Your description really does make it seem like a bit too much work. Especially at the risk of it getting taken again. But if you DO ever place it, I'm eager to see what you have in mind. Have you ever found my TSA Cache? It was interesting trying to Lock that little container. Has several compliments on it though, so the extra work kinda paid off, IMHO.
