Palomino Pop Ups had many campers that had External Lift bars/poles for the roof. While not a Palomino, I also had a camper with such a set up. These Pics are of my old 1966 Wheel Campers camper, model name unknown. Now on this old camper I had, I used to raise each end of the roof at a time. It made no difference where I started ...front or rear. From the outside of the camper you just lifted up one end or the other and locked the external bars in place. IIRR. there were 2 locking pin positions at the back, so that was probably the end you wanted to lift up first. (Similar to the '75 Palomino, in fact.) With This camper though, the bunk ends were hinged to the body of the camper. So after you raised the roof you had to flip the bunk ends out from the inside. Not unlike opening up a large door. This made for a lot of opportunities of some torn canvas toward the roof of the camper.
Speaking about Palomino campers, I understand that they used Spring Loaded lift bars and that you were to lift them up from the inside of the camper and they would lift the whole roof at once. This was especially true for the Palomino Hard Side pop up campers. I've never owned one though, so I'm not sure how those worked. But I figured that I could show some pics of another system that I used to own on another camper. Maybe this one used to work the same way but the springs were just worn out and weak by the time I bought it. Maybe? Perhaps, I think.
