I read the story, and I actually Replied to the Cache listing. Full C&P follows: I agree, this was handled Entirely the wrong way by said cacher. "An employee witnessed a man placing a small box inside the base of a light pole in the parking lot, according to a Lake County Sheriff's lieutenant. When an employee confronted the man, he made a comment that there were more boxes in the area and then left in a vehicle of unknown description, police said". More boxes in the area... and then left the scene? WTH? What would ANY normal employee think without a basic knowledge of the caching Game? Convert a Muggle? Great! Winning them over to a wonderful Game is always a good thing. Prevent the Ignorant from calling in the Bomb Squad? C.Mon!!! A few simple words of Explanation of the game would have resulted into a Non News event. I wish you well my geocaching friend. I hope this works out A-OK for you and the (never should have been involved!) cops. Good Lord. Just how far do certain folks have to be carried away these days, huh?
When I first read this, I thought to myself how silly is this? Then I had a geocacher friend Archive an LPC that he owned. So... I considered Archiving my LPC's too. Until I thought more on this matter. I cannot know for sure (until I hear back from a friend) if this is why he Archived his LPC cache, but I wonder if this story has anything to do with his decision. If This story IS his motivation for the Archival, than I am pretty sad and sorry to see the state of affairs that our country has come to. I mean, where has Common Sense and Open Communication with Neighborly folks gone these days? IMHO, Politically Correct has gone WAY to far.... and Friendliness with fellow folks has been long since diminished. I find this to be Very Sad indeed.
