Here's something I've never heard of till today. A Chirp Cache. The first one in Illinois was just published today in Aroma Park (outskirts actually, but anyhow...) it's GC # and Link is: GC2GWW9It's near the Heiland Forest Preserve cache I own, and there are several others out there as well. OBCJY placed it, and I even have a Note log in there asking just what the heck is a Chirp GPSr. The Mrs. found the answer for me, and after I check my email I can offer up more assistance here in this topic. Anyhow, I think this is a pretty cool idea and an interesting new new cache concept so I figured here is my place to share the info about it. ;D First fear I had (and addressed in the Note log) was the cost. Not to worry, this Chirp GPS device appears to be in the lower 20 bucks range. I'm going to the email now to see the link my wife sent me for more info. Again, interesting new cache idea/concept.

Others find this interesting as well, I can tell you that much. The time it took to make my first post, the Watch List went from 1 to 4.

OK, I'm Stumped! Looks to me like the 23$ device has to connect to another device that I doubt I have, and might cost up to 400$ ? If that's the case, I have to say that I may quickly lose interest in the new idea. Sorry folks, I don't have that kind of $$ rollin' around in my inventory to play that level of a caching game.

You have to have a Chirp enabled GPSr, and they are not cheap... Like the whereigo caches, I will be tagging along to make the find.

Upon further thinking about this the past couple of days, I think I understand this now. The $23 Chirp device is something that is Hidden in the Field with the cache itself, (or nearby to prevent theft) and yes... you will need a higher end unit to be able to receive the Chirp signal from the 23 buck device. When you get the Chirp signal to the GPSr, you begin the visual search. Yup. I'm gonna have to do a Tag Along with someone as well before I'll be able to log that one as a Found.

I was hoping that my colorado would do it, but alas, time to move on to a newer unit again. I could probably sell my colorado and get like half the cost of a new 62

How much was the Colorado, New? Out of my realm, I believe.
Chirp Caches. Neat idea, but not very Practical IMHO. That sucks....
