Well as the phones are getting better all the time, I'm wondering how many folks are Caching with them. I haven't started to just yet, but now that I know how to pay for Apps on this thing I just might. Finally.... Paperless Caching? That would be sweet!!! Sent from my LGL55C using ProBoards

Back at the PC now... (this is easier~ but good to know the Mobile option is OK too) and I remember that the Official Geocache.com site's App is around ten bucks. Not yet sure if I want to do that for the phone or not. There IS the free App, c:geo that I have on the phone, and I haven't really played enough with it to understand how it will work in the caching field. But it does appear to be a bit promising from what I have seen of it. Wow, these mobile devices sure have come a long way, haven't they? I'm really Impressed with what these things can do now. Anyhow, keep up the chatter here, and share your Mobile experiences with us!!

I'm using C:Geo, its replaced both of my GPS units, the Turn by Turn feature of the phone gets me near the cache, then C:GEO gets me to it, as long as I have decent signal... I'm still hiding with the hand held, but all my finds are coming from the phone. The nice thing is that as soon as I find the cache, I can sit there and log it at the same time, that way I don't have to worry about forgetting anything that might be interesting for my cache log. The other nice thing is that since we got C:Geo, Leanne has started logging her own, instead of me getting home, and then logging finds from three different accounts... I log mine while were out, she logs hers while were out, and then I log Dylan's when we get home.

What App do you use for the road directions to the cache? Remember, my Car GPS won't let me enter coords, so that won't work. And while I haven't actually tried the c:geo App, I don't think it'll tell me the Drive part as you mention.
I also like the way you can log the cache in the field. And having all the descriptions, note and so on... I really think I can do true paperless caching now. No more cramming in the notes and maps the night before a big run. (though I'll probably still do a main map or two if going into unfamiliar territory.)

I start with C:GEO, select the cache, then I Choose Navigate, then from my phone I use Turn-by-Turn. Which GPS do you have? car GPS are GSAK compatible. From GSAK: - select File
- Export
- Select Your GPS (It will then create a file that it will send to your desktop)
- Plug your car GPS into your computer.
- open your North America Maps
- Copy the file that GSAK created into your North America Maps

Magellan Roadmate for the Car GPS. Never tried that with GSAK before, might be worth it. On the phone though, I found one today with C:GEO, but don't know what turn by turn on my phone to use. I didn't see Navigate in C:GEO. I did find a Map in c;geo and I got there (familiar territory, and less than a mile away) but then I couldn't get the Compass back. The app took a long time to reload so I could select that cache again. I Was able to log it, but didn't have any other option but to log it as Found. I found it in a few moments later, and wrote in the Log to explain my deal. The App test was a Success, but not an Efficient success. Will be practicing more with it I'm sure.

you guys are lucky to be able to do all that. while i am lucky to be able to barrow the GPSr i use. cant afford a phone let alone a plan to keep it running. its so easy to take these tools for granted, i would'nt what to have to use a map and compass instead though it would make the find that much more gratifying.

I for one, didn't intend to make you feel bad my friend. As for me, you have to remember that I am significantly older and have put in a ton of working hours and efforts to achieve the things that I have. I mean, this forum alone was a heck of a long time in the making to even get as far as it has. Trust me... this is Not the biggest place to be, and I'm full aware of that fact.
As for the GPS'r you need to borrow? I might be able to correct that hangup for you. We can talk about this in PM, either here or at FB. I can't make any Guarantees here... but maybe something can be worked out?

Still looking for them Turn by Turn directions on the Android, Bryan. Yup... I'm still stuck on that part. Also understand this... my GSAK is so out of date it's not even funny. It would be a Chore to try to get that set up with the car GPS'r. I'm pretty sure that my Car unit is a bit out of date as well... .. .

I'm quite certain that Bryan is using his phone for Caching more than I am at this point in time... but yes. It is rather astounding what these newer Smart Phones can do these days. You also have to realize that at one point in time (circa 2001) I thought to myself I would Never own a PC for I was too old to learn how to even use one. Hmmph! MY how times have changed, huh? Seeing as I'm now the Owner of a Site, Forum, and so on. Smart Phone, home network... sheesh!) And all the stuff I do with the networks and the computers at Work. Trust me, at the time... I had No Idea that I would ever get to be this involved with the entire idea. And yet, here we are. I too am Marveling at what is available to us these days.
