This evening, this is the 3rd post I have about any type of Home Made campers/trailers. And this is the one that I was wanting to share in the first place tonight. Picture this: We've all seen them utility trailers being towed that are little to nothing more than a half a truck, right? You know the ones.... those half trucks being towed behind a full truck. Makes sense really, take a wrecked truck and cut off the cab to get a useful trailer from the remains. Thus you have a tuck bed behind a full truck. Double Utility use, huh? Now what if we did something like this with the back half of a wrecked full sized VAN?
Pics coming Soon on this one folks! I just found such a unit for sale in my local paper and made the call to the seller to check this one out. Aww man! What if, huh?

I really am torn here as to whether I should buy this thing or not! The man's only askin' $650 for it, and I could go either way with it. A start of a smaller camper that I could use nicely if it were just me, myself and I.... or it could also be stripped out into one heck of a nice Utility Enclosed trailer as well. I think I could get most (if not ALL) of my Shop in this trailer and get my stuff out of my folk's garage! Kaye's telling me (and rightly so....) that I really ought not keep taking up Park Lot spaces here at home. If I were to buy this thing I'd be up to four park lot spaces taken. (Yikes! ) And for us to actually Use this as a camper just would NOT work with the 3 of us in the family. But!!! The potential I see for this trailer as a Mobile Shop OTOH is really making me wonder if this wouldn't be such a bad move after all. Either way, this guy did a heck of a job on it so far and I see a whole lot of potential for better things to come with this particular homemade trailer. My entire Pic Shoot is HERE ~ in this Webshots Album and I'll include a coupe of my Choice Pics direct in this post as well. Don't forget to check out the Captions I wrote in the pics in the album. I won't add any comments to the Pics I post here tonight.
I dunno, what does anyone else think about his one? Regardless of direction I went if I bought it, this IS one very unique creation! One Observation that I see from this trailer: It's Got to be fairly tongue heavy with that axle being set so far back on the frame. There are ways to work around that and correct the situation, but I never said that those ways would be very Easy. This unit has potential, but is does require some work too, both on the finishing side of things as well as the Engineering side too.

Why??? I don't see why you would even think about this... if you rally want a travel trailer type camper then sell the pup, take the $650 you'd be paying for this p.o.s. and buy a small TT. You can probably get a nice Tada, Rpod type trailer (or similar).
If you were looking at moving up from a tent's and could only afford $500 or so then I would say go for it.
I'm willing to bet that you'd be way over the tongue weight of your hitch with that thing, and it would cost $$$ to move the axle (which probably still has the running gear in it) forward.

My lack of activity in this Topic (or even the Forums here lately) pretty much says that I guess I'm NOT focusing much thought at all for buying this thing. IF (and that's a Big IF...) I bought this, it would be stripped out and used as a Mobile Shop. Not a Camper. Kaye was right, and thinking it over only concludes that this would be a Stupid alternative for me/us as a camper. Give up my Fully Loaded pop up for this? I think Not! But as a Mobile Shop! How about that idea? Might work, might not. Either way, I guess I've about forgotten about this particular trailer. Heck, it might even be Gone by now. As for the tongue load on this. The guy said he was towing this with a Chevy Colorado. Really??? If so, my 1500 would Certainly do better for towing.
I guess it is kinda a p.o.s. now, ain't it? Certainly so as a Camper.

i have seen that trailer van thing before. wow Forgive me, I forgot your Name Deadman. (I can look it up, but not while posting here. ) Anyhow, to keep the Topic alive and You Informed... I never did buy this one. As said in earlier posts though, this (IMHO) would have made for a nice Utility Trailer or a Mobile Shop. Some work required of course, but it had Potential.

i saw it in a drive way near BBCHS last winter. i figured you hadent, your more used to the pop-ups, anly thing like that trailer as a camper would be a step down. though as a shope on wheels it may have its perks. its ok that ya didnt remember my name at first, i have to look these things up every now and again

However... I really kinda wish I Did buy it to serve as a Mobile Shop. Oh... Imagine the Possibilities. ;D
First and foremost, an Adjustment to the paint job on the Front of that thing. Sheesh! LOL!

Automotive Repair Shop, Dan. Think along that line of work. If I bought that thing, I would have stripped it out and installed my Tool Boxes, Compressor, A/C Generator (to run the Compressor), and my Lockers of various Service Manuals and canned goods that are often used in the field of automotive repair. Along with that, I would have kept and sturdied up the outside tables to serve as work benches. A camper type of Awning would serve as a shelter in case I had a job on a rainy day. Shoot... a large enough Awning could even serve as a Car Port of sorts, ya know?
Dang it! Now I'm starting to Regret Not having bought that thing while I had the chance! Argh!!!!!

Yes it would. I Do have another (smaller) trailer that I could build up into something like this. So, Despite the current Economy (and the fact that I'm darn near Broke!!!) I DO have my hopes and Aspirations still intact.

If we stick together...
We'll survive. I Refuse to just lay down and die in the current situation.
I'd rather say that I am ready for whatever might happen under this current Administration via Obama. ( what a Joke!!!)

Automotive Repair Shop, Dang it! Now I'm starting to Regret Not having bought that thing while I had the chance! Argh!!!!! You do know .. if you were to buy and old mini van and lope off the cab from the front doors forward you could make one yourself... I still say that the tongue weight on that beast would have been staggering due to the location of the wheels...

You meant to say from the Front Doors Back, right? That would be the far much more logical way to do this. OK, yes. I understand. In fact, I've actually built a Flatbed Truck once upon a time out of an '83 Ford Ranger. On a second '83 Ranger, I built my own bed enclosure. (cap, A big one)
So.... Not only can I see this being done with a Van, but I can also come up with an Entirely new Build Idea for my current '94 W/T 1500 Full Sized Truck. ;D ;D ;D ;D
