Folks, things have come a Long way in recent years. WOW! Regular Members here should know that I recently suffered a Major meltdown of my PC Network system here at home. Ultimately, I've replaced ALL 3 of our PC's, and as such we're all basically starting over again from Scratch. What a pain!!! But!!! An SD Card has come to the Rescue!! My Digital Camera has an SD card for the main memory, and most of the Pics hosted at my Webshots Gallery have originally come from the Digi Cam. That in turn, is how I Restored the Pics to my new PC. Now, while messing around with this stuff, I also got a Micro SD Card for my new phone/camera. Portable (and Transferable) Memory. And I have to say that the Pics from that phone are Not too darn bad! Here's a couple of examples to show what I mean. Not too shabby, huh? As I Always have the Phone with me, I think I have a good back up for those Spot Pics that I wish I could have taken... but for what ever reason the Digi Cam wasn't available.

Well, I don't have one of those and actually, I don't want one. A hard drive is a hard drive and when it Fails (they all do in time...) it's done. I've been through too many PC's already where it's likely the Hard Drive that ended up taking a dren. Either that, or the Main Board. Been through those too. Considering my desire to keep Pics safe, actually the BEST way to do that is to host them somewhere online. Not unlike what I have with most of them at a place like Webshots. For other Doc's, I've been considering a Back Up service such as Carbonite. (sp?) I've yet to check that out, but I'm really considering doing so soon. That may be more convenient for Automatically backing things up on an automatic and regular basis. Still... I'm thinking that these SD cards are pretty handy and good enough to handle most (maybe all?) of my Backup needs if I get disciplined enough to do the task Manually on a regular basis. Once a Week ought to be good enough? Maybe even once a Month if I don't make any significant changes in the Docs that I want to keep from losing. A past plan for Backups was to use the Zip 100 disk's. Now, the 2GB SD cards are looking like a Much better option. And when we think about Data Transfer (from a phone to PC, thus to Webshots....) These things Rock!
So, I guess that's where I was coming from by starting this here topic.

I guess another main point for this topic is, I Always have the phone with me on the trails. I Often have wanted a pic or two of some area, just to find that the Camera is not available. Or, I find that the SD card is missing from the phone... So, the Camera/Phone has it's own Micro SD card, and as such it should Always be on the ready for when I want to snap a pic or two at a cache.

ive been using my cell for a few yrs . works great for me.. Thank You! See, someone Agrees with me. ;D (and Welcome to the Forums, oneangel! ) Incidentally, I'm going to be using that SD Card and portable reader tomorrow on the computers at work. Seems one of the guys had another type up a nice customer phone number list, only to find out that the printer that used to be on that particular PC is now Gone. Oops! So, along comes Me to the Rescue with my own stuff to transfer that list to another PC that actually has a Printer installed on it. <Smirk!>

Just make sure you dont do the following with an SD card..: 1) forget in you pockets, when your pants go into the washer. 2) leave it out where your pet (dog) can get a hold of it thinking its a treat. 3) try to "install" it into the card reader that sits on a shelf above your coffee cup. and 4) let others use the extra cards, as they will loose them...
Don't ask how I know about the first 3...

Don't ask how I know about the first 3... Answer for All 4! 1) Never goes in a pocket. Either in the phone, camera or PC. In the case of the Camera, it was either batteries died while caching or the card was still in the PC for the previous pic transfer. With the phone that simply doesn't happen. 2) Apartment = No Pets! (wouldn't have another one anyhow. Hurts too much to lose the good ones... ) 3) Card Reader built into the PC, and NO Drinks ever belong above the tower. Talk about bad possibilities! 4) We each have our own cards for each device. There are no extras. You lose it, you're SOL. Actually, Kaye's already out of luck, cause the card lock thing broke on her phone. Now that sucks! Knock on wood, so far so good. Except for Kaye's phone....
