I'll soon have all pics posted at my Webshots Gallery, as this is a work in Progress. I'll post Some Pics here, but not all of them as that would make for a slow loading Topic. That said, I'm sure y'all have seen the portable Fire Pits at stores near you that can be used in the back yard or at camp. Well, I've often wanted one, but at the standard Round 28" Diameter, I figured that to be a bit too large to store and carry along. So I dropped the idea outright. (I'll never buy one.) Until: My neighbor found a unique Oval Shaped one just a day before my first trip this year in 2011. He let me borrow it for the trip, but sadly he didn't intend for me to keep it. <Bummer!> OK, so I was bit mad about that, but then I got a Free 30 Gallon Drum from work today.... and Ideas flooded into my mind. Yup, I'm gonna make my Own!
Now the Standard round ones are about 11" off the ground at the lowest point, have 12" Legs, and are 28" in Diameter. Remember... Too Big!! The Unique Oval one I just used on the last trip was about 12" off the ground, and measured almost 29" x 18" in the Oval shape, and the legs were about 13" long. Now for MY idea, and a few Pics... The Original 28" Store bought: The Unique Oval one from the Trash: And then the Beginnings of my own idea: A 30 Gallon Drum about to be Customized!!! ;D This is work in progress, but let me leave you here with one last Pic and maybe an idea of what I'm having in mind. And also let it be known...... Mine will have Wheels Too!!!!
Oh yeah... Do Stay Tuned folks. I think this is gonna turn out really good! ;D

OK! A Frame/Legs Update is here. I ran into a Snag or two, but I figured something out along the way to correct it. ;D Some Framework in place, and Bolted in as well. And this IS part of the plan... All things Store inside the drum! Remember. Full Progress of this Project is up in my Webshots Gallery.

Leg work had a lot of Progress tonight. Still some things to do to Finish this, but... Going Very Well so far. I even had a couple of new ideas, the main one being a tote along handle to move the pit around the campsite. New Legs, Almost Complete! (also, Pit Installed!) Lid still Attached, & Open! I don't have a Pic of this, but the mistake on the frame actually Will Allow the lid to remain attached to the pit, and I can Open it Fully without the pit assembly flipping over backwards. Success!!! ;D Now then. I can't Pass up the chance to show this last Pic of the evening. Umm... A Test Fire. It's not a big one just yet, but at least a start of putting this to use so that I can burn off the oil product in this drum before I ever try to Cook something in here. There's still work to do. Grates need to be installed, Handles need to be done, Vents drilled and legs still need some help. But all in all, this is coming along rather nicely.
